License Types Explained

MP3 Lease vs WAV vs Exclusive vs Buyout — what to charge for each

MP3 Lease

The entry-level license. Buyer gets a 320kbps MP3 file, up to 100,000 streams and 10,000 downloads. Non-exclusive — you can sell this to other artists. They must credit you. Typical price: $29.

WAV Lease

Higher quality license. Buyer gets both WAV and MP3 files, up to 500,000 streams, non-exclusive. Good for artists planning serious releases, radio, or sync. Typical price: $49.

Exclusive License

Once sold, the beat is locked — no more leases can be purchased. Buyer gets unlimited streams and downloads, full commercial use. The beat is removed from your store. Typical price: $199-$500.

Full Buyout

The nuclear option. Buyer gets everything — stems, WAV, MP3, transfer of all rights including re-sell. You can't use the beat anymore. Only for top-tier placements. Typical price: $499-$5000+.

Pricing strategy

Start lower on new uploads to build plays. As a beat racks up plays and likes, raise the price. Your most popular beats should be your most expensive. Never lease-exclusive for less than 5x your WAV lease price.
